Since the start of broadcast journalism, there has been one person credited with revolutionizing the area. This was Edward R. Murrow, also Called Mr. Television. Murrow set the maximum standard for the coverage of information on radio and television. He broadcast stories which other supporters of the time would not even touch for fear of blacklisting. His details were solid, his extent comprehensive, his analysis on target, and his principles uncompromised (Edwards 7). He was also fearless when it came to challenging leaders who believed were abusing their power, including Senator Joseph McCarthy. Murrow ushered in the modern age of reporting by basically creating the television and radio journalism moderate and by openly using those mediums to challenge the perspectives and fundamentals of politicians. Broadcast journalism is described as, “a area of news and journals which are вЂbroadcast’, which is, printed by electrical methods, instead of the older methods, such as printed papers and posters,” (“Broadcast Journalism”). Edward R. Murrow was one of the very first authentic broadcast journalists. Although papers and journalists had been in existence for quite a while, radio and tv were relatively new areas of technology, and also a new means of presenting the news had to be accommodated. Murrow’s first experience with broadcast journalism came to be when he began reporting out of England through World War II. Even though the radio was certainly not new when Murrow began reporting from it , it was the very first time it was used as a significant news source (Bernstein).
