In the war between nations, technology has played a massive role in the effect; this is particularly evident during the time of World War II. Technology in warfare consisted of weapons, vehicles, aircrafts, and chemical reactants. Technology during World War I had been lacking and countries knew when World War II began that in order for them to be successful they should have the most technologically advanced weapons as well as other systems or devices which would benefit the nation. The Allies were more successful in WW2 because they made better use of the available technologies compared to Germans, progressing in communication/detection systems such as sonar and the radio, in addition to, weapons such as the nuclear bomb, along with bomber aircrafts. One communication system which the Allies used more effectively compared to the Axis was that the SONAR system. Sonar was an acronym which initially stood for Sound Navigation and Ranging. Sonar operates by using sound propagation, most frequently underwater, to navigate and communicate together or find objects around these (Overy). This was crucial to the war effort due to the fact that the Allies were able to detect and alert folks where a ship was and which way it was going in.
