The dichotomy of individualistic and interpersonal tendencies is a way to obtain conflict within all human beings and throughout history. Psychologically healthy folks have desires to maintain the ongoing company of other folks, while in other instances, they would like to isolate themselves from the global world and appearance inward. Both of these inclinations are kept in balance by leading a standard lifestyle with no extreme emotionally stimulation. Nevertheless, when trauma is experienced in the psyche, this stability could be upset and people could find themselves looking just inward and shutting out all of those other world totally. This self-imposed exile from humanity is certainly something that the historic Greeks understood and frequently explored within their mythology. A common development in Greek mythology was to employ a self-imposed exile as a protection mechanism and kind of punishment as observed in the myths of Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and Medea by Euripides. The myth of Oedipus Rex contains self exile for Oedipus to handle the fate that he provides suffered and proved helpful his very existence to prevent.
