Michelangelo Buonarroti 1 Michelangelo Buonarroti is currently one of the most famous sculptor, painter, poet and architect during the High Renaissance. He is most famous for his sculpture of David and his fresco painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo led a very interesting life and also had a massive impact on art as we view it today. Michelangelo was considered a contributor of their Mannerism motion. Mannerism is defined as " an art style in late 16th century Europe characterized by spatial incongruity and excess elongation of the human characters (8). His artwork brought another style for this period of time. What formerly was a more conservative design became a more humanistic style which Michelangelo often depicted with nudity. Michelangelo was born as Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni on March 6, 1475 near Arezzo, in Caprese Italy (two). He had been the second of five brothers created into Ludovico di Leonardo di Buonarotto Simoni and Francesca Neri. Though he had been born at Caprese he considered himself "son of Florence" (3). Michelangelo's mother died when he was only half a year old. Before she died, his youth "was grim and lacking in affection, and he was always to keep a taciturn mood (3)". His father started to realize that he was really smart and delivered him to the college using a master, Francesco Galeota, who taught grammar. In this moment, Michelangelo studied the fundamentals of Latin. He made friends with Francesco Granacci, a student who was just six years older than him, who was studying the craft of painting.
