In William Golding's novel Lord of the Flies a plane of evacuating British school boys crashed onto an island, the oldest only twelve years old. A boy, Ralph, picked chief, and enabled the group to stray further and further to the shadow that lies in all. For, Ralph acted immature, froze up during crucial moments, and didn't utilize his best assets. For instance, Ralph took liberty to state what he wants, irrespective of others' feelings or having a mature disposition. In particular, he disregarded Piggy's petition of not telling anybody his old nickname. Called Piggy in school as a form of bullying, he asked Ralph to not mention it to anyone. When Jack called Piggy Fatty though, Ralph quickly blurted, "He's not fatty his actual name's Piggy!" (21). This resulted in Piggy known as such from that point on, exactly what he didn't want. Despite Piggy specifically asking Ralph not to tell and why, Ralph nevertheless did, absent minded to Piggy's feelings. This condoned into another boys that the disrespecting of Piggy and every other, for as the boss, Ralph place the case. Next, Ralph also shouted in a crying "littlun" in frustration with an assembly. The team concerned about a "beastie" "littluns" stated they watched. At the assembly, a group of them invited Percival to tell Ralph and others about what they've experienced of this beast, but when asked his name, he started to roam out the broke sobbing. To this outburst Ralph cried, "Shut up, you! Close up!" (87). Instead of comforting a part of the group, or calming people down, he ignored Percival's distress and immaturely screamed at him.
