Tracing the notion of 'Japanese truths' As my thesis addresses the interpretations and commentaries on Western myths from Western scholars one might expect me to begin with the starts of Mythological study in the 19th century Europe, however, the more pressing subject in my opinion is that the positioning of their Japanese myths at the time the very first Japanologist came to the touch together, an extremely complex matter reaching as far as the 8th century enclosing the narrative of some text, its construction, interpretation, reception in addition to translation. The concept of mythology originated from the West (I'll address this intricate issue later on) and didn't exist in Japan before 19th century. The Japanese word for 'fantasy' (shinwa 神話) is believed to come in use after 1900. The word 'Japanese myths' today typically refers to the first element Kojiki (古事記 712) and Nihon shoki (日本書紀 720)and also that the earliest recordings of the history of Yamato realm, with the title 'Age of gods' that deals with the stories of creation as well as the tales of deities. Prior to 19th century Kiki were not perceived as the origins of Japanese mythological canon since they are today which is well exemplified by the expression Kiki myths (Kiki shinwa 記紀神話), referring to the mythological narratives of both Kojiki and Nihon shoki, being first used in the 19th century. The perception of those texts failed a succession of transformations from being the source of legitimization for its central aristocracy from the antiquity till it reached its present canonical standing as the origin of shared national memory. Furthermore even in today's age the concept of 'history' stayed attached to the Kiki texts along with the discourse on mythology and history intersects on lots of subjects even now. Before we st.. .
