Racist Society at Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird The way I perceive racism will be discrimination and prejudice against someone with a different skin colour or moral background. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses racial bias as the primary subject matter either towards a single person (for instance, Tom Robinson) or involving groups of people (for instance, the black community in Maycomb.) To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the 1930's. This is as soon as the blacks have obtained equal rights with white men and women. Bob Ewell is nearly if not is, fearful of these blacks as he's regarded as the lowest of the low, and he sees there is no definitely defined line between the black community as well as himself.
