The Character of Calpurnia in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird Calpurnia is a central and flat character in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. She is an African-American woman who functions as a maid and cook of those characters Jem, Scout, and Atticus. The audience learns about her interactions with her loved ones. Lee portrays this character as being a mother figure, a non-racist person and non-confrontational. In the publication, the readers see Calpurnia as a mother figure.
