How Miller Gifts Joe Keller as a Tragic Hero in All My Sons Joe Keller is a man who enjoys and values his family very much. Like many Americans he's given everything so he could have the big house, the fancy car and the pocket. He's given everything so he could get the American Dream. Regrettably for Keller, everything is not as great as it seems. "All My Sons" is still a very tragic play. It shows how a man can sacrifice everything including the honor of the name to create his family prosperous. This battle for wealth and material products involves Keller performing an awful offense because he wants his family to become wealthy. This is actually the reason for Keller's downfall. Back in "All My Sons" Miller examines the morality of a man who places his narrow obligation to his immediate family over his broader duty to the men who rely upon the integrity of his work. "All My Sons" reveals Keller putting his family before society. In the end of "All My Sons" Keller disappears offstage and shoots himself. This is a very tragic thing to happen because all Keller wanted was a joyful family. If Chris finds out that Keller, his father, had enabled faulty cylinder heads to be routed from his mill, Keller proves to the crowd that he desired good to come out of it by stating "what the hell did I work for? That is only for you, Chris, the whole shootin' game is right for you" on page 102 and "For you, a company for you!" on page 158. This tells the viewers that Keller was a very hard worker and that all of the hard work he did was for his family. After hearing this Keller doesn't sound as a murderer or a killer in any respect. He seems like quite a loving and dedicated father and husband who may have done anything wrong but.
