Rita's Change and her Relationship with Frank How does Rita's character shift along with her connection with Frank alter during the course of the play? "Educating Rita" is the story of a married working woman, Rita, trying to better and discover himself by attending an open school program. The play follows her as her personality and connection with her tutor, Frank develop and change until she moves her tests and they part. Rita fully transforms herself through her schooling and by the end she is able to select what to do next instead then being swept along by circumstances and everybody's expectations. Rita says that she just wants a baby if she's got choice and by instructing herself she is getting choices. Willy Russell writes that "instruction gives you a choice" and that I guess by this he means lots of different kinds of alternative. Primarily it provides you choices on careers and your future jobs, you have a whole lot more choices with schooling, education can help you see different perspectives and different ways of thinking and teaches you about various choices. You can choose whether or not to take them. If you're educated on a subject you will not feel ignorant and you may pick if you want to convey your viewpoints or not, instead of keeping silent because you don't understand. In teaching Rita there are a number of examples of Rita being more competent to opt to express her views because she's been educated.
