Nat Turner Nat Turner was an African American servant who had been born in Southampton County, Virginia on October 2, 1800. He started working on southern plantations 1831. When he had been younger, everyone thought of him being very smart. They found that he was smart when he was about three or four years old. While youthful Nat Turner was playing a number of his buddies, his mom heard him tell the kids about something which had happened to him when he was born. She later had asked him about what he told the kids. She requested him details about the episode, and it confirmed that he knew about this last event. From that time on, other slaves thought that in addition to his unique perspective, his physical markers were a sign that he could be a prophet. He had been brought up understanding that slavery was wrong. He was taught how to write and read by his masters son. Later on, he got married to a servant named Cherry. They had two children together. The final was born in 1822. He went by the name Samuel Turner. But, he afterwards died. Both Cherry and Nat possessions were sold. Nat was marketed for the price of four hundred bucks and Cherry was marketed for forty dollars. Even the children were marketed. They had been so glad that they weren't sold to farms where the slaves had been work very hard, nearly to death. Turner took his religion seriously. He had been a preacher and he preached at many different black churches. The servant owners like the fact that he was a preacher because they believed they could learn much better from one of there type. As a young man, he began having visions he believed were from God.
