Teaching Status Report Following the questioning, dreading, and planning, I am teaching in a middle school classroom. I entered the college feeling very prepared. Following weeks of studying, discussing, and writing about topics related to teaching, I was ready to implement my own learning. Within my first week I started by simply observing my cooperating teacher. From that observation, I have formed many opinions and perspectives on my teacher's strategies to classroom management and other topics. In reference to classroom management and discipline, my cooperating teacher is a naturally confident and strong-minded individual. If he walks into a classroom, he commands attention and also his peers feel obligated to obey his powerful voice. As a result of this natural power, I think my cooperating teacher does not feel he needs a set of classroom management rules. When a student misbehaves, my instructor singles outside the student and verbally corrects him/her. The only other method of subject I've seen him use is moving a student who had been particularly troubling. This kind of classroom management and discipline seems to be successful for my cooperating teacher, nevertheless as I start to take over the classroom I feel this method won't work for me. While I do not see myself as somebody who could be bullied, I don't believe I possess the pure aggressiveness to be able to just use my voice and intimidation as my only form of subject. I think when I have complete charge of the classroom I'll ask my working teacher what other forms of discipline may be used, like detentions, extra assignments, or possibly in school suspension. I believe if the pupils know that I'll use these punishments if desired, they will honor me exactly the same manner they respe...
