It may be the full year 2081. Due to Amendments 211, 212, and 213 to the Constitution, every American is equal fully, meaning that nobody is stupider, uglier, weaker, or slower than other people. The Handicapper General and a united team of agents make sure that the laws of equality are enforced. April one, fourteen-year-old Harrison Bergeron is recinded from his parents, Hazel and george, by the government. George and Hazel aren’t fully alert to the tragedy. Hazel’s insufficient awareness is because of average intelligence. In 2081, those that have average intelligence cannot think for prolonged stretches of time. George can’t comprehend the tragedy since the law requires him to wear a radio twenty-four hours a day. The national federal government broadcasts noise of these radios to interrupt the thoughts of smart people like George. George and hazel are viewing ballerinas dance on Television. Hazel has been crying, but she can’t remember why. She remarks on the prettiness of the dance. For some moments, George displays on the dancers, who are weighed right down to counteract their gracefulness and masked to counteract their visual appearance. They have already been handicapped to ensure that TV audiences won’t feel bad about their own appearance. Because of the handicaps, the dancers aren’t very great. A sound interrupts George’s thoughts. Two of the dancers onscreen hear the sound, too; evidently, they are intelligent and must put on radios aswell. Hazel says she'd enjoy hearing the sounds that the handicappers fantasy up. George appears skeptical. If she had been Handicapper General, Hazel says, she'd create a chime sound to make use of on Sundays, which she thinks would create a religious effect.
