When the First World War began to come to an end, many people expected that it would be the final war which Europe had to endure. Unfortunately to many people who lived during the very first war, the Second World War surpassed the first in departure, extent, brutality, and from the amount of people it reached. The roots were not just buried at the First World War, but also from the precious years after it. It was also the result of Axis aggression, a collapsed peace treaty after the First World War, along with the collapse of the Allies to block the expansion and influence of Axis forces. As soon as the First World War began, many people believed that it would be a quick warfare (Wilkinson 35). To those who looked the combatants, the Entente powers appeared the most powerful (35). Even though when push came to shove, Germany's industrial might and cracked army came to a jolt for the Entente powers (35). The failure of Germany's invasion plan into France, developed by Count Alfred von Schlieffen, lead to trenches being steered by both sides to the Western Front (40). With casualties mounting on either side, the Germans risked everything in a last offensive to France (68). Defeat are the failure of the Central Powers (68). Victory was almost in reach, even though the German military could no more discipline enough guys to assault (69).
