In the essay "Can a Video Game Lead to Murder? ," Ed Bradley reports on an episode in Fayette, Alabama involving the shooting of three police officers by a teenager and a multi-million dollar lawsuit against both the makers and sellers of their Grand Theft Auto video game. According to his report Bradley uses inflammatory phrases, skewed reality, and quotes of notable people to try and agitate uninformed parents and make them more conscious of games and the consequences they might have on their children. Bradley starts his report off with asking the reader to envision a game that would let them "decapitate police officials, kill them with a sniper rifle, then massacre them using a chainsaw, and then put them on fire" (Bradley). This use of extremely inflammatory and graphic diction can be employed for only 1 purpose, to prime the reader's head with a feeling of anger from putting forth an affront to their morality and sense of decency. Bradley explains the sport for parents as viciously as you can leave no space for questioning the chance of any redeeming facets present. Being advised that the sport is dominated by "the laws of depravity" and that the whole reason for enjoying the game would be to kill police officials could immediately change any parent's thoughts to anger towards this match (Bradley). Bradley's aim would be to instantly horrify kids and frighten them with the risk that their own children might be playing such a match. This will instantly grab your reader's attention and keep them reading the content that is exactly what any good journalist would need, but what cost does focus grabbing pay with regards to the fact of the subject? The content does have merit when Bradley reports on the suit has been brought against the makers of the ga.. .
