How can we define "abuse" if we talk child abuse? "Abuse" is called Treating a individual or creature with cruelty or violence, especially when it happens repeatedly and regularly." When you put in "kid" it becomes "child abuse." "Child Abuse" is defined as "bodily maltreatment or sexual molestation of a child." (Oxford Dictionary on the web) "Child abuse" can also be described as "a breach of inflicted bodily or psychological harm on a child. And the term can denote the usage of inordinate physical violence or verbal abuse: that the failure to furnish appropriate shelter, nourishment, medical therapy, or emotional support. (Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Encyclopedia 2000) Child abuse and neglect is a hidden epidemic that kids nationwide are experiencing. Since 1995, the number of deaths caused due to child abuse was rising in record high numbers. All children have had their demanding experiences until they turn into adults. Children are faced with dangerous items within their surrounding environments every day. These events that might seriously affect them during their whole lives, both psychologically and emotionally. "In 2005 alone, among 3.6 million investigations by Child Protective Services agencies at the U.S, an estimated 899,000 children(24.97%) were verified to be victims of child abuse." (childhelp 2009) There are 4 typical types of child abuse: neglect, physical, sexual, and emotional. Neglect, is where a child's needs are.
