The memory of september eleventh remains powerful in my own mind. I first found out about the strike in my second grade classroom, even when my instructor abruptly stopped teaching to flip on a very large radio. Though I was only a kid, the body language and the hushed voices of the adults around me were sufficient to convince me that something was really wrong. . A serious sounding news anchor was committing through the fateful news report. Although his words went my eight year-old mind, he still made me feel helpless. Even today the memory of this man on the radio is still my strongest memory of september eleventh. I feel that this story is a good method to illustrate the way a kid processes traumatic experiences. Estha and Rahel, the kid protagonists in Roy's The God of Small Things also experience trauma, though their is far worse than mine. It's important that Roy made the main characters kids. Because they are not weighed down with all the prejudices that come with maturity, Children have way of viewing things in a simplistic simplistic manner. Because this book deals with complex topics of post-colonialism at India, obtaining a youngster's simplistic view of the situation may be a great benefit. The book is as much about India as a whole since it's around a household in Ayemenem. Therefore a number of the characters could be considered symbols which reveal how Roy feels roughly postcolonial India. Of all of the characters that can be considered symbols that the most fascinating one is Sophie Mol.
