All people have different morals which change based on their surroundings and circumstance. Jean Valjean, at the book Les Miserables(1961), varies from someone with perplexed morals into a person with much more morals than most whom with respect learns to share and love. The protagonist's transformation starts when the bishop admits Jean Valjean's human spirit that is capable of goodness. When he is put out in the streets, Valjean goes from spot to place being refused for being a convict before he meets with the bishop who sees him as a common man, "That men saw his mask, however, the bishop saw his face"(75). Despite the fact that people may be helpful, they do not always see a person's true soul.
