The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy, Purgatory Dante's The Divine Comedy segment of Purgatory is a depiction of Dante and his battle to reach paradise. He's a character in addition to a narrator. The purgatory section deals with all the seven mortal sins and Dante's job of cleansing himself on his journey to paradise. He faces many distinct people on his trip to self-righteousness, which help and guide him to his fate. Developed by Virgil or reason as he's depicted, his pursuit is a difficult journey with many answers to be found. Dante was created in May 1265 and lived his early life at a time of change and of great economic and cultural growth in Florence (Kirkpatrick 2). The poet has been critically aware of improvements in Florentine poetry and painting (two). He also had an eye for the political arena too. He had been chosen several times to among the six priors that dominated his republic. Dante had abandoned the town for a short time when a revolt took place between the Black's and the Whites. Dante was sentenced and sentenced to death for corruption. Little is known about Dante's individual life or family life. His mom died early in his youth and his father died shortly after remarrying again in 1285 (Grandgent two). He acquired a half brother and half sister out of the union, but little is understood of these either (2). There was possibly a second sister but when she was from the very first or second union, we do not know. Around 1277 Dante's dad arranged Dante's marriage to Gemma, daughter of Manetto Donati. The approximate period of marriage is currently about 1283, but again not for certain. Dante had three kids, two sons and a woman that became a nun and changed her title to Beatrice (Foster 12 ).
