CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION This chapter discusses the overview of the study which is going to be conducted. Background of the Study Tourism is a data extreme processing business where the supply chain actions are dependent to the information technology to promote travel and tour packages, to process air ticket bookings, hotel bookings, to communicate between providers and intermediaries and to collect information on the clients (Poon, 2011; Sheldon, 2010; Inkpen, 2010; Schertler, 2009;-RRB-. Information technologies, particularly the Internet, have substantially changed the playing area for tourism stakeholders, providing new challenges and opportunities. Furthermore, customers are becoming IT sophisticated and rely heavily on information technology such as the Internet to look for travelling bundles and interesting places to visit around the world (Buhalis, 2008). The information technology advancement has been proved to offer more advantages to tourism enterprise to be able to provide flexible, specialised, accessible and interactive products to the customers (Hojeghan & Esfarangeh, 2011).
