Alive Book Report The book ALIVE, by Piers Paul Read identified several possible themes, even though I really do believe there are two that stand out. Both of these themes are survival and cooperation. Survival plays a significant throughout the whole story. The most grisly part in the narrative occurred when the rest 28 passengers of those Fairchild were forced to cut up and eat there deceased friends and family members so that they would be able to live. This radical action was long disputed. This group of people went on for two weeks eating nothing but small portions of chocolate until they thought about their food resource. Secondly, during the ten weeks the lands were in the Andes Mountains, which in the end was only 16 individuals, cooperation was a necessity. The 1 case that stands out was around the previous expedition when Roberto Canessa and Nando Parrado set off for civilization. For ten days that the two boys walked the endless chain of snow covered mountains till they finally discovered a wrought peasant. During these crucial days it was only their heads of metal and endless alliance that got them through. Parrado and Canessa were the one’so who saved their friends from the Andes. The setting at ALIVE gave you a true sense of just how terrible it was for the Andes survivors. To begin with, the Andes setting was basically what kept the natives from being discovered by means of an airplane. The snow covered mountains blended into the roof of this.
