In this class, we have struggled to evaluate the current educational system in order to find out if significant social issues, such as raising regional poverty, and declining literacy levels in certain urban regions are linked to economic differentiations in the schooling system. Due to recent studies, some have thought about the problem of educational financing allotments in order to determine a system which provides greater equity between socioeconomically disadvantaged in-state universities and richer suburban, middle class colleges. This funding issue has been addressed a number of times. It has been recognized that the basis for the necessary funding changes have stemmed from the recognition that school funding differences link directly to sociological problems, including the creation of a cycle of poverty and illiteracy in below funded urban settings. Among the most significant issues raised in public education in recent years is that the radical difference which exists in funding amounts between poor and wealth school districts (Zuckman 749). Many states have allotted educational funding related to tax revenues, and this has determined a higher degree of educational spending in rich areas and a much lower level of spending for inner-city poor and rural communities that are poor (Zuckman 749). Due to this focus, numerous states have implemented and considered programs for the equalization of school funding, but that hasn't come without significant resistance (Zuckman 749).
