Rita's Development as a Character in Educating Rita in spite of the fact that this drama was written 25 years past we can state that the message regarding schooling lending choices is still relevant now. Throughout the course of this drama Rita reveals how she could achieve exactly what she wanted. We can certainly see the radical change there is in various facets of her between Act 1 Scene 1 and Act 2 Scene 7. A number of the facets are her attitude, her tongue, her instructional advancement, her physical appearance and her private life. Right at the beginning of the drama Rita depends a good deal on her loved ones and husband. They eventually become a hurdle for her if she can not follow her dream because of the working class values. They say she must stop thinking about having an educated girl and concentrate more on making a family. "Denny discovered I had been on the pill again… he burned off all me books." This is an example of the way her husband doesn't like her learning and how she's ignoring the notion of having children because of that. It even gets to a point where he burns all her books. In the play, there's a symbolic significance in the way she struggles to open the doorway of Frank's office the very first time she moves in. This is a means of showing how her learning is going to be hard: "(from the doorway): I'm coming in aren't I? It is that dumb bleedin' grip in the doorway. You wanna get it repaired!" Later in the drama we can observe how she attempts to oil the doorway: "is standing at the doorway, holding a little can of oil" This shows how she is determined to find out and it's also another symbolic way of stating that she will work with every device she can to realize her goal...
