Only 13.9 percent of young men don't see porn, and of those who do, 51% of male pupils and 32 percent of female students viewed pornography before age 13 (Gilkerson). 21.3 percent of college males watch it daily or multiple times each day (Gilkerson). Not only has pornography become popular, but it's become more available and a lot more explicit. Years ago, the most explicit pornography that someone could get was a Playboy magazine, but today that's called 'softcore pornography'. In today's world of high-speed Internet, exceptionally graphic videos of every imaginable genre of sex are available at no cost at the click of a button (Clay). With technology getting easier and simpler to use and in part as a result of high sexual emphasis in the American society, men and women are being exposed to porn earlier and earlier, with the average age being about 12 for men and 13 for women (Gilkerson). These children readily keep their online wanderings secret out of their educated parents, as around 62% of teenagers say their parents know little or nothing about the sites they see (San Diego Court). While it is certainly interesting to see how deeply porn has permeated our culture, it does nothing to reveal whether this is bad or good. Many defend their right to document, publish, sell, buy, and view porn, but this isn't the real question. Rational individuals will decide for themselves what they should do about parents and it will decide what they will need to do for their kids, but porn must analyzed.
