Closing the Gap for 6th Grade Math Students Today, schools in Oklahoma have been graded mostly on their pupils' achievement rates in four different core curriculum subject areas (Oklahoma State Department, 2014). If a student fails to get the knowledge needed in only one content area each year, then at the end of 5th grade they could possibly be behind in six content areas or even be six decades behind in one area. Oklahoma's 6th grade math program has definite expectations that have to be met before a student can start the curriculum and expect to have any success.
