They Believed in Freedom Have you ever wondered how big of part Abraham Lincoln and Walter Sisulu had to do with their country's civil rights or what they had in common? Abraham Lincoln was known throughout all America as an honest and a great person that was involved with the civil rights movement in America. Walter Sisulu was a great person from South Africa who was at the Anti-Apartheid movement. He had been among their leaders as they attempted to find the black people's rights just like the white people's rights. Abraham Lincoln and Walter Sisulu have several things in common and many differences in their lives, but they both considered civil rights. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a log cabin which has been in Hardin County, Kentucky. Abraham educated himself everything that he knew by reading novels that he borrowed from many people. He did a lot of manual labor in his early life and functioned at a general store. Abraham Lincoln became the 16th president of the United States of America in 1860. He had a tough time throughout the Civil War keeping the country together. He assisted the South come back, so that we could be a united nation once again. He made lots of famous speeches including the Gettysburg Address. Under his leadership, the authorities gave permission to all men and the liberty to select what they wanted to perform. Lincoln supported the Homestead Act. This enabled poor folks from the East to set up land and reside in the West, providing them more rights to live where they needed to and assisting them do it. Democrats accused Lincoln of being an absolute ruler in dealing with people's civil rights.
