Each garden has its own purpose which makes gardeners devote a significant quantity of time to care for them. Gardeners are inventing their own distinct ways of caring for their gardens, especially when they make profits from it. In his book, The Botany of Desire, Michael Pollan claims that the top gardeners of his creation have devoted themselves to developing cannabis, popularly called marijuana. Intrigued with Pollan's argument, I completely agree with him. Marijuana growers are the best gardeners because they chased the plant in developing them inside, they create a good profit, and the plant itself fills the need of people for transcendent altered states of awareness. The modern prohibition against marijuana led into a revolution in the culture of this plant. Pollan opinions, "It stands among the wealth ironies of this drug war that the introduction of a potent new taboo against bud led directly into the creation of strong new plant" (105). Every plant develops certain mechanical defenses, in this instance compound, to protect themselves from potential harm. The compound that marijuana makes people, possibly even certain critters, go mad. They are willing to take risks just to plant marijuana to satisfy their need of intoxication and to help them forget faster. In spite of the fact that it's illegal to grow marijuana, individuals have created a manner, or perhaps the plant created exactly the way, to keep on growing it.
