The Fixer In the novel, The Fixer, the writer, Bernard Malamud, presents to us an unhealthy Jewish handyman residing in Russia through the early 1900’s, prior to the Russian revolution had started. Destroyed by his wife’s disavowal, Yakov Shepsovitch Bok leaves his shtetl searching for opportunities for a much better life. After a couple of months of desperate searching, Yakov sneaks from the ghetto to consider function among the goyim. As he queries the roads, he stumbles upon a guy who lay drunk on to the floor. Yakov instantly recognizes a pin on the man’s layer as owned by the anti-Semite corporation called the Dark Hundreds. Placing his doubts behind him, Yakov decides to greatly help the fat Russian. Unaware of Yakov’s origins, the Russian offers him employment as a reward. The working job, however, requires him to reside in an area prohibited to Jews. Out of desperation, Yakov agrees. Just a few months later on, honest, hard-working Yakov, is definitely caught. Authorities had discovered he's a Jew. Under a week before that, however, a horrible murder have been committed plus they accuse Yakov to be the murderer, when actually the true killer may be the young boy’s own mom. Yakov is billed with murder for spiritual reasons. They believe the Jewish community required the bloodstream to bake in to the matzos for Passover as symbolic of the remembrance of the crucifixion of Christ.
