Often times generally there are two natures that reside within a personality that both complement and conflict one another. A Yin and a Yang in a personality is expressed in the character of Tom Buchanan in F clearly. Scott Fitzgerald’s book, THE FANTASTIC Gatsby. In a single respect, Tom exemplifies pure and brute domination through willpower and strength. However, because of his class and social standing he exhibits his overwhelming existence with finesse that's not completely his own but instead positioned upon him through his wealth. This conflict is definitely obviously illustrated through the motif of the colour blue through the entire novel as Tom’s inner character of anger becomes even more obvious while his aristocratic, cold outer appearance fades, revealing that appearances isn't reality always. When the type of Tom is first introduced, his appearance is that of a blue blooded, well-to-do, wealthy person while his blue flame of anger is hiding underneath the surface. Tom lives in the “palaces of the East Egg”, a location in NY where only the social elite and old wealthy reside (5). Tom is certainly residing in an area where not merely folks of wealth can live but also a location where only folks of blue bloodstream can live thus leading to him to appear to become a good natured wealthy gentleman. When Tom is normally introduced at his home he's impressively posing on leading porch “standing along with his hip and legs apart” showing his self-confidence and blue blooded character (6). The actual fact that Tom stands along with his legs apart is pretty significant for the reason that it implies that he understands his place in culture and the picture he must uphold.
