The Absence of Religion in Wuthering Heights In Wuthering Heights religion and spiritual elements are missing from virtually all details of the novel. The nearest thing to a church would be Gimmerton Kirk, and the closest thing to a spiritual leader is Joseph. I feel that Emily Bronte's view of religion isn't really powerful in people's methods of carrying out their lives. Possibly religion is current but doesn't affect their decisions or thoughts. This non-influential view of faith is significant in Wuthering Heights because it enables many of the conflicts and events to be carried out. Obviously many of the ways the characters feel are not affected through any type of conscience or powerful forces other that themselves. I feel that faith would have kept most of the conflicts and dramatic relationships to a minimal, since the characters will probably look at things differently.
