The Chinese people has been rising since the beginning of Chinese culture, but not as rapidly as if the People's Republic of China was formed. Mao Zedong believed that expanding the people would result in some spur in economic development. The People's Republic of China provided enhanced sanitation and medicine, which helped ease the growth of the Chinese people. The reinforcement of population growth was soon ended after both the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution since China was not able to support such a massive growth of the populace.
