When analyzing the battle of Gettysburg from the leadership perspective I discovered the three components of planning, preparation and communicating in the right equilibrium are essential to success. Nevertheless, in the wrong amounts, they can result in failure. These elements are the basis for strong leadership in any business especially in an instructional setting. Throughout the accounts of the events leading to and during the battle both sides at various times had the advantage in each one of these 3 components. However, during this specific conflict in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania that the Union forces experienced the major balance in each of three. From the beginning of the battle that the Union forces had the advantage. Lee had shifted his strategy of leading a continuous defensive campaign to now carrying the offensive and invading the North. He was a hard charging soldier who had little direction to reach tactical advantage. Both of these men were also control mechanics for Lee’s fanciful trademarks of his commands to his generals.
