In our world, there's an abundance of societies. Different societies have different approaches to freedom, and also have different notions of what freedom is. In our society, we are taught that liberty is something which everyone ought to have no matter who they are or where they're from. At A Brave New World, Huxley gives us two examples of societies. These societies will be the World State and the Reservation and they both have very different types of and perspectives on liberty. By utilizing both of these illustrations and providing the readers with multiple characters that live in each society, Huxley definitely shows us his view on the topic of liberty. The personality which stands out the most is John, and that is because John is in the Reservation and his perspectives clash with the views of this World State. John is your personality which Huxley uses to show his stance on what liberty is and how society affects our strategy to freedom. Unlike the other figures from the book, John was born in the Reservation. The Reservation openly practices their liberty without even being bothered by the rest of the world. Although John is part of the Reservation, he's not quite as free as the others are because he's not accepted by these. One reason that John is not accepted by the others is because his mom, Linda, is from the World State. They believe that the perspectives and ways of Linda will influence John and the way he or she lives. John's freedom is restricted in a place where liberty is a huge thing. He attempts to earn complete liberty by winning his peers' acceptance, but fails because they see him as being different.
