Juliet in act 3 scene 5 of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare One of the most well-known plays written by Shakespeare is 'Romeo and Juliet' which was composed in the 16th century. The play evolves around both of these characters. It is about love, hate and honour of 2 families-the Montague's and Capulet's. The feud between both of these families has been going on for so long they've now forgot exactly what they're fighting over. The 2 personalities Romeo and Juliet both suffer from tragic circumstances, I'll go into more detail further on in the essay. Additionally, there are a couple more characters that have a significant role within this play. They are Benvolio, Mercutio, Tybalt, Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet and the nurse. Act three spectacle five will be the region of the play I will be focusing on. A lot of things have escalated just ahead of the spectacle, Mercutio (Romeo's cousin) was killed, this contributes to Romeo going after Tybalt and killing him. For killing Tybalt, Romeo has been banished from Verona, he goes and stays in Mantua after saying goodbye to Juliet. Capulet subsequently gives his sentence to Paris that he can marry Juliet, however Juliet has already married Romeo for the love. For someone in Juliet's position marrying for love in the 16th century could be seen as disrespectful and also the family title and honor would be in danger. Rich people often would get married into a different wealthy and respected family; they were a lot like business dealings. Act three is really where most of William Shakespeare's plays start to acquire more exciting and full of tension.
