On October 7, 2001, the United States began attacks on elements of Afghanistan controlled by the Taliban. These attacks and invasions were meant to target Osama bin Laden who had been the chief of al-Qaeda. The United States demanded that the Taliban hand over Osama bin Laden. As soon as the Taliban failed to turn bin Laden over, the USA began bombing various places in Afghanistan which were commanded by the Taliban and the invasion followed, and also the war in Afghanistan started. Osama bin Laden, leader of al-Qaeda along with the guy who planned the attacks of September 11, 2001 was living in Afghanistan under the protection of the Taliban that are a group of Afghan freedom fighters.
