Grendel's Mother's Attack At Beowulf, we see quite a few elements during the poem. To begin with, we visit a pagan warrior culture. Within this society the relationship between a king and his thanes is crucial. It's a symbiotic relationship where the thanes shield the king and his territory and fight his wars. But in return, the king provides for his guys. He offers them these items as mailcoats, swords, helmets, stone rings, mead, beer, shelter and much more. This society also places great value on kinship. If one's kin is killed, it is the remaining comparative's obligation to produce the killer pay for the death, possibly with his own life and also the fee of wergild (that the "man price"). Ultimately, we observe the recurrence of their pagan ideas of fate and guts. Men think that fate controls their lives. Beowulf always tests fate and believes that through guts he can live on in the memory of those who will live after him. At the part of this poem coping with Grendel's Mother's attack, we see the warriors settling down to bed in Heorot after the enormous celebration of Beowulf's victory over Grendel. They seem unaware of the truth that Grendel has kin that might return to avenge his death. Grendel's mom appears on the scene, even snatches a man away and hurries back to the mere. When it is discovered a man is dead, regret is revived. There is no more pleasure at Heorot, now that the she-monster has hunted "payment" for the departure of the son. Nevertheless since she and her son are all critters, the thanes feel little sympat...
