Tom Stoppard Tom Stoppard is among the twentieth century's most interesting and creative playwrights. He uses his art kind to criticize society's inability to manage the idea that we are governed by chaos. The modern world has created fate as a justification for not doing something to shape or alter our result. Stoppard uses his plays as a mirror held up to date, revealing his viewers the ridiculousness of leaving up to fate. Tom Stoppard is a modern playwright dwelling in Great Britain. He had been born in 1937 and produced his first successful play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead in 1966. His more recent works include Travesties and Arcadia. The atmosphere for these three plays are significantly different; Rosencrantz and Guildenstern occurring at the time of Shakespeare, Travesties set during World War I and Arcadia taking place in 1809 and the present day. However, in all three settings, Stoppard made modern figures to reflect contemporary perspectives, and most notably, contemporary flaws. In each case he shows that the figures representing contemporary men will easily feel that their future can't be changed and that they're not responsible for their own acts. He uses different characters in vastly different circumstances to create and criticize this identical point. In Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Stoppard cleverly eliminates the characters of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern from the play of Hamlet, extends Shakespeare's caricatures of these and makes them modern. The play is currently about how Rosencrantz and Guildenstern present the viewer with a picture of modern attitudes. They never perceive any kind of arrangement in the universe.
