Memory is among the most crucial parts of cognition. It is vital as it's involved in virtually every facet of cognition such as problem solving, decision making, attention, and understanding. Due to this importance, individuals rely on one's memory to make important decisions. The value of someone's memory in this society is so high that it is used as evidence to either save one's own life or kill one's life during murder trials. However, as many of the cognitive psychologists know, individual's memory can lead to a number of mistakes. One of those errors is untrue memory which is either remembering events that never occurred or remembering events differently in the actual event. This finding of false memory raised large interests among psychologists and overall public and many researches have been performed so as to discover more about the false memorycard. The pragmatic approach to memory, which claims that memory has been assembled by individual based on what really happened along with individual's additional understanding, experiences, and expectations, encourages the idea of false memory. Much like what pragmatic approach to memory conditions, the false memory can be produced by person's knowledge, shared biases, and suggestions. The current study was done in order to demonstrate one methodology that biases people to produce and recall false memories. The present study is based on Deese's experiment in 1959 and also on Roediger and McDermott's experiment in 1995. The participants will be presented together with string of words visually, and then they'd have to classify a set of words as either in the sequence or not at the sequence.
