Curley's Wife in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men In this essay I will analyze whether Curley's wife is a tart or not. I will think about how a number of the other characters in this novel, Of Mice and Men, perceive her. Using this information I shall draw a conclusion about her personality and character. A sour is defined as somebody who sees up gaudily and exposes her body features to entice the opposite sex. It's usually described for someone who is a prostitute. John Steinbeck portrays Curley's wife, as a tart at the beginning of the book, however since it progresses the way he presents her is opposite. At the end of the book we see that she presents herself like a sour due to the intense loneliness she experiences. She seems to always to wish to find attention from the other guys, however this does not happen how she needs it to as everyone she approaches rejects her. Steinbeck doesn't give her a title because she is treated like a possession by Curley and is not expected to have her very own character. Curley controls her and everything she does Curley would like to know. He's too possessive over her. Even though the other folks on the ranch find her, they do not speak with her for fear of Curley's anger. It's sad that she cannot communicate with the guys and that; there are not any girls on the ranch for her to befriend and talk to.
