Changes in Rita and Frank at Acts One and Two Nicola White The manners by which Russell defines the changes and developments in the characters of Rita and Frank in Act 1 scene 1 and Act 2 scene 1 of Educating Rita The drama 'Educating Rita' written by Willy Russell explores the life span of Rita, a twenty six year old woman from a working class background, who's attempting to locate a new individuality by becoming more independent, more educated and cultured. Rita goes into the Open University and matches her mentor Frank. She is determined to learn by him and won't permit anything step inside her way. On closer evaluation of Act 1 scene 1 and Act 2 scene 2 of this play along with the fluctuations in the association between Frank and Rita in these two scenes. When Rita enters Frank's office at the start of Act 1 she's quite talkative and enthusiastic. Frank is having trouble with his own life but he also makes a clear link with Rita. In Act 2 scene 1 Rita returns from her vacation she's more mature and also broadly educated and does not need to totally rely on Frank anymore. He does not approve of the attempts to become very controlling over Rita. In 'Educating Rita' you will find two acts. At the first action there are ten scenes plus there are seven scenes at the second, fifteen altogether. This whole book is more than a one year span and Frank and Rita are the sole two spoken characters in the drama. The scene is placed at the Open University within Frank's office in England. This can be effective because it shows you just how the figures change however, the setting will always remain the same. It shows the change more effectively.
