It is said that joy is a sense that lies in the clarity of the spirit, tranquility of the heart, and calmness of their mind. However it is also said that happiness is the true sense of fulfillment that originates from hard labour and self-actualization. It's an abstract state of mind that most people intention to conquer. Sometimes people tend to associate happiness with something recognizable, together with what they lack or don't maintain, for should they fall sick, it would be wellbeing and if they had been short of money, it would be wealth. If we considered these as particular goods or transitory moments of joy that are subject to change, then what defines the ultimate happiness? With all the different perspectives on happiness, what makes some claim that there could only be one true meaning for man's ultimate bliss, and of the remainder of significance are fallacious ones? Aristotle says "Our task is to become great guys, or to achieve the greatest human good. That good is happiness". This paper aims to examine and evaluate the concept of happiness according to each of Al Farabi & Al Ghazali, whereby it sheds light on the components of true happiness for each author, their mutual viewpoints, road of attaining it and their divergence of thought regarding that concept, taking under consideration the effect of Islamic theology. To start with, Islamic theology clearly defines the idea of happiness in addition to structures means of achieving it for the soul and body. But, soul is given greater importance and association with excitement.
