Catch 22 America has been engaged in the cold war for many several years. The fear of communism is destroying lives. The nation moves closer and closer to the Korean war. Joseph Heller's Catch 22 is published. 1963- College students are observed wearing military fatigues with "Yossarian" name labels. Reports are being created around a "Heller Cult". Bumper stickers are fabricated that read, "Better Yossarian afterward Rotarian". The term "Catch 22" has surfaced significance that a "no win situation" it is currently an excepted term in the English dictionary. This kind of dramatic change in opinion from the prior, Pro-war society, it's clear that Catch 22 had some impact on the anti-war motion of the 1960's-1970's. And of course the book was that the one reason the motion started, It was certainly a catalyst. A demonstration novel, Heller's narrative describes the absurdity of bureaucracy, the stupidity of war, and also the energy they both have to conquer the human spirit. Heller uses a war zone atmosphere, to satirise society at large. He compares the commanding officers into Incompetent businessmen. "Do not mumble, and mumble "sir" once you do, and don't disrupt, and say "sir" if you perform." Desiring promotion over every thing else, Colonel Cathcart keeps increasing the number of assignments the men of his squadron need to fly. Though the army says they want fly only twenty five, a bureaucratic trap referred to as "Catch 22" states they can't go home at forty because they need to obey their controlling officers. Much like the work place, the guys are forced to experience unlimited quantities of red tape, which hardly gets them anywhere. Yossarian tries to pretend he is crazy to get out of fighting.
