I offered in the Task Center for my Service Learning project. My responsibilities were to see the children who participated in the after school program, play with them and assist them with their home homework. I really enjoyed interacting with all the African American individuals and culture. I heard many things in the African American people I worked with. I learned how the Activity Center staff educates the following school kids good manners and behavior. I mentioned in a few of my service learning journals the staff was very stringent and treated the kids like prisoners, but I came to the understanding that perhaps that's how they teach the children subject. I had the opportunity to be around all of the Activity Center kids and interact together. They were kids just like any other children. Of course they are children and occasionally they did misbehave but they were actually great kids. I noticed that most of the boys want to be more independent of them, however they were such sweet children. The Activity Center centre has existed since 1955, it was founded during the civil rights movement. I learned that the Action Center was dedicated to help families for many decades. Corey, one of the volunteers I met there, went into the Activity Center as a child. The statement on the Task center states, вЂњFor decades that the Community Center has served neighboring households, youth, seniors, and the Lincoln community with inclusive вЂsocial, cultural, education, occupation and welfareвЂ™ services.вЂќ The Community centre continues to be a refuge to numerous African-American families who have needed financial aid through out the years.
