Gun crimes are unquestionably a substantial issue in the Thai society. Crimes involving firearms, ammunitions, and explosives are among the best fives in terms of the number of cases that go to court. In the previous 30 months , there were 63,266 cases which reach the provincial court along with an extra 9,187 instances for the juvenile and family court [1-3]⁠. To put it differently, there were more than 70 occasions per day being decided. These numbers grossly underestimate the true number of incidences, as there are many cases that are not registered to the courts by people prosecutors due to different reasons such as the lack of eyewitness testimony. Since the onset of the insurgencies in the southern provinces more than seven decades back, there were over six million incidences of shooting to date [4]⁠. This accounts for roughly 54 percent of all terrorist-related incidences [4]⁠. While over 145 billion baht was spent, Thailand has not been able to relieve the issue [4]⁠. As a consequence of those terrorist actions, more than four thousand people have died and seven thousand people are injured. At the hottest Terrorism Risk Index released by Maplecroft -- a global risk assessor -- Thailand was ranked 11 of 196 and has been categorized as exceptionally at risk [5]⁠. Nonetheless, these incidences have rarely resulted in a successful prosecution from the criminal justice system. No perpetrator was discovered in 76.5 percent (5,872 of 7,680) of all national security-related cases that reached the courtroom [4]⁠.
