Comparing and Contrasting 'Teechers' using 'Educating Rita' that I am going to compare and contrast 'Teechers' by John Godber with 'Educating Rita by Willy Russell. I think the most apparent likeness between the two plays would be that the subject of instruction. In Teechers the teaching is awful both the teacher and children are not motivated to find out. The teachers despise working in the school as the kids are so baldly behaved 'everybody's hoping to get out' The tragic teaching also applies to Educating Rita in which Frank himself explains his schooling as 'appalling but good enough for his dreadful students'. The dreary approach to teaching concerns the teachers in both plays and in both plays with the boredom is because of being trapped at exactly the same dull system for this a very long time. Back in Teechers Mr. Nixon comes together and inspires Gail, Salty and Hobby to carry their instruction more seriously and also to enhance on the instruction in Whitewall. The character Nixon is based on Mr Harrison who is believed to have turned the 'kids' lives around 'prior to Mr Harrison came here, the instructors had given us up for dead we were average'. This inspiration also occurs in Educating Rita, Frank has been teaching students for a long time and if Rita walks to his office he is taken back with her rawness and her opinions. Both plays are put inn the 1980s at the time of Margret Thatcher. Among the policies of 'Thatcherism' contained a large amount of government money being spent on large schools that were recognized that then abandoned the poor schools very poor. It then came clear that there were chasms between the schools thriving and the schools struggling. This is shown in Teechers by apparent differences explained by the youngsters of those schools St Georges and Whitewall 'within an old play.
