Plato's Apology From the retelling of his own trial with his associate, Plato, entitled "The Apology"; Socrates claims in his defense that he only wishes to do good for the polis. I feel that Socrates was innocent of the accusations which were made against him, however he possessed contempt for the courtroom and shown that in his conceitedness and all these activities contributed to his departure. In his shield, Socrates asserts repeatedly that he's innocent and isn't in any way wise, "for I know I have no wisdom, small or great." Throughout the rest of his oration he seems to behave the opposite like he is far better than every man, and afterwards he even claims that, "At any rate, the entire world has decided that Socrates is in some way superior to other guys." This seems to be his best error, promising to be greater than even the jury. Socrates was accused of bringing false gods to the polis and corrupting the youth. The sole false god has been himself. For he might have introduced himself in such a way for his numerous followers. These followers were largely, as he states, wealthy young guys who have not much to do. That I could envision is where a good deal of his conceitedness comes from, being almost worshipped be others. These guys followed all of his teachings and practices, such as the condescending cross-examinations, that were probably the worst of his actions. Socrates high respect for himself might have started with all the oracle from Delphi, when Chaerephon, "asked the oracle into tel.. .
