Kate Chopin provides her reader with an immense quantity of information in only a couple of short pages through her short story, "The Story of an Hour." The protagonist, Louise Mallard, realizes the numerous faults in amorous relationships and marriages within her epiphany. " Great care [is ] taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband's departure" (Chopin 168). Small do Josephine and Richards know, the information will have a profoundly positive effect on Louise as opposed to a negative one. "When she left herself," Mrs. Mallard opened her head to a new way of life. The term usage shows that the protagonist underwent a substantial shift. This life wouldn't be compromised by her spouse will, that will enable her to live for herself during the years ahead. Her epiphany happens exactly when she frees herself to new ideas and the prospect of individuality rather than dependency. This gives her a fresh awareness of assertiveness and ability to live her life according to her own will. This epiphany is established by Chopin's use of foreshadowing, Mrs. Mallard's acquisition of new info, and the changes that this information sparks. The first element Chopin uses to indicate that an epiphany is foreshadowing. Through the first page, she employs foreshadowing and optimistic language to indicate a coming epiphany. Particularly, the optimistic language she uses leads us to feel that this epiphany is going to be a favorable one. Foreshadowing is a highly effective component supports Mrs. Mallard's realization. Thoughts and actions of every one the characters help the viewers predict Mrs. Mallard's forthcoming epiphany.
