Domestic violence is a intricate problem that plagues society frequently. Judicial systems all over the United States have tried to create regulations to protect victims of domestic abuse. Furthermore, scattered scarcely throughout the United States are non-profit and small organizations which attempt to enhance the judicial protection with added resources. Yet, domestic abuse seems to be much larger than any services these systems can maintain. Victims of domestic violence suffer from dangerous issues even non-profit and judicial systems have yet to overcome as society advances, more issue appear to arise. The Philadelphia legal system has provided what is referred to as the "Protection from Abuse Order (PFA)". According to state law, misuse is trying or causing bodily injury, putting fear of bodily harm, sexual assault, false imprisonment, or stalking. The PFA protects victims from interaction, abuse, stalking, and harassment in the abuser (Family Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association, 2009). Additionally, due to familial complications that may arise from domestic abuse, PFAs may also offer child support, custody, and financial payment. If the victim qualifies and the PFA is issued, it continues a mere 36 months (3 years), but may be extended if circumstances render it necessary (Family Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association, 2009). Although this PFA sounds helpful in its intentions, the further technical details of a PFA are questionable. Like many other towns, in Philadelphia that a PFA petition can only be submitted at the Family court during business hours of 8am to 5pm.
