WHY CORROSION MONITORING Corrosion cost the process industries an estimated $300 billion dollars per year in lost production, gear failure, and penalties for environmental and safety violations (Avery, 2008). Losses in cash, time and equipment created it important to examine the rust and look for ways to stop it or control it. But because corrosion is a natural difficulty, it usually means we can't totally prevent it from occurring, but we could try to control it. This fact resulted in the technology of rust monitoring that on the other hand started to experience development by taking various approaches, considerations and ideas to restrain the corrosion problem. The author of the book "Corrosion for Everyone", Groysman, A. implied that it's impossible to stop corrosion of many metals because they're thermodynamically unstable in the environment. And then he suggested analyzing the materials to see how long the equipment or construction will serve safely and efficiently under certain conditions. In other words, knowing the corrosion rate and corrosion kind helps in forecasting the life strength of their equipment and in assessing when to execute shutdowns, repairs, or replace the gear (2009). Another source defines the word corrosion because the breakdown of the engineered material due to chemical reactions with its surroundings and at the most frequent use of the term corrosion, it means electrochemical oxidation of compounds in reaction with oxygen or in general with an oxidant.
