The Story of Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin seen by many is a statesman, philosopher, and a journalist. He was born on January 17, 1706. He had been the true rags to riches story. In "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin", he writes about his life in detail and informs you how to become a fantastic man. To compare Franklin's early life to his older life would be to compare an apple seed to an apple. Both of that, expand to become something great. While reading Franklin's autobiography, one will observe the hard ships of a little boy and the triumphs the small boy makes to turn into an American icon. The reader will soon see his ups and downs and will have the ability to see the gap of a young Benjamin Franklin along with a classic Benjamin Franklin, his adolescent mistakes to his great achievements in American history. In 1771, Benjamin Franklin is writing his autobiography that'll be in three parts. Part one starts off in his younger years, he had been the son of a soap maker. He had been "restless and miserable in the shop. He hated the work of soap " (Bellis). Later on he moved to New York where he strove to have work under William Bradford. When William couldn't give him a project, Benjamin subsequently proceeded to Philadelphia. When he arrived, he had been "a weary and tired boy" (Bellis) and he set out to get work and food. He was then dwelling in the shadow of his older brother, James Franklin. James got him a job under him for the newspaper, the "New England Courant". Benjamin wanted to compose the paper also, but he understood that James would never allow him. So Benjamin began writing letters at nighttime and registering them with the title of a fictional character, Silence Dogood.
